final fantasy 16 Producer Naoki Yoshida said that after the game’s PS5 debut, Square Enix will begin “cautiously” developing the PC version of the game.
In an interview with Japanese outlet Weekly ASCII, Yoshida all but confirmed that work will begin once the console version is released.
This isn’t the first time it’s been said that a PC version will eventually be released to customers, but it’ll be a while before it arrives. In February of this year, Yoshida said that he did not expect to launch a PS5 version of the game for six months.
That’s because the team spent a lot of time and money optimizing the PS5 version; moreover, Final Fantasy 16 is a limited-time exclusive for the platform for six months.
“Even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won’t be able to optimize it for half a year, so it won’t come out in a short period of half a year. I want to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I can’t say when yet.”
In the meantime, Yoshida hopes Final Fantasy fans and all PS5 owners will give the console version a chance instead of waiting for the PC release.
Final Fantasy 16 was announced as a PlayStation console exclusive in September 2020, but was also revealed to be coming to PC. Following the reveal, Square Enix seems to be saying that the title will only come to PlayStation 5.
Although the game’s public trailer shows an asterisk next to the words “PlayStation console exclusive,” along with the note “Also available on PC.”
Final Fantasy 16 will be released on June 22. If you want to know what to expect, check out the demo for yourself.
