If you’ve been on social media for the past few years and are into video games, you’ve probably seen or heard about Squirrel with a gunThis is a game where you play as a squirrel with a gun, and its console release date has just been announced, and it will be released at the same time as the PC version, which is confirmed to be released next week (stay tuned).
We actually covered Squirrel With a Gun when it was just a short clip of a squirrel shooting a gun in a non-ambient setting in early game development and everyone said “wow, that looks like a fun game”. Now it is a fun game and it’s coming out soon, but whether it will have the depth or staying power of Goat Simulator remains to be seen.

Regardless, the game’s PC release date has been confirmed as August 29, and thanks to the efforts of developer Dee Dee Creations and publisher Maximum Entertainment, the game has made it out of these videos and now has an official console version. It will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on October 15 this year, and you can watch the latest trailer below.
This should also help you understand what you’ll actually be doing in Squirrel with a Gun, aside from the “just a squirrel with a gun” concept, although that’s obviously part of it. It would be weird if you marketed your game as a squirrel with a gun theme and then two minutes later it turned into something like Burnout Paradise 2. This game could also get you in legal trouble.
Honestly, I got a lot of Goat Simulator vibes from this after watching the game and listening to director Dan DeEntremont further explain what players actually do in what he calls a “sandbox shooter and puzzle platformer.” The platformer looks a little different, especially in how guns are incorporated, but all the sandbox stuff of running around town looking for little activities and choosing whether to help or annoy (probably both) a bunch of human NPCs who think you’re just a stupid animal is very Pilgor-esque, and as someone who loves goat sims, I say that as a compliment.
