A week before release, STALKER 2 updates the PC configurations required to run it. Be careful of radiation, it could get hot!
After a very long journey, partially interrupted by the terrible conflict between Ukraine and Russia, STALKER 2 will finally be released on November 20th for PC and Xbox Series. We are particularly interested in the PC version, for which GSC Game World had already revealed the required configurations last year. However, the Ukrainian studio has revised its copy upwards, and that could cause some Geiger counters to explode.
Radiation peaks in the new STALKER 2 PC specifications
While STALKER 2 was certified Gold on November 8th, a sign that the game appears to be in a stable enough state to be distributed, GSC Game World did some last-minute calibrations in this regard. For this reason, the release was postponed by just over a month: to November 20th instead of September 5th. In particular, this leads to re-evaluated PC configurations, as we can see in a recent post on the license’s official X.com account.
STALKER 2 is therefore equipped with a new recommended configuration, which is significantly more demanding than the one originally recommended, in order to run the game with graphics in High at 60 FPS. The old recommended configuration now allows the game to be played at medium settings, also at 60 FPS. A new Epic configuration is added to the table, this time a game in 4K at 60 FPS with all visual controls at full speed. We can finally note that the game requires a huge required storage space: 160 GB, as well as an increased amount of RAM, even from a minimum of 8 to 16 GB. You can see what STALKER 2 needs for each configuration in the table below, shared by GSC Game World.
What about popular technologies on PC?
It should be noted that the table above does not indicate whether the configurations requested for STALKER 2 include modern and very popular technologies such as ray tracing or even upscaling options. GSC Game World responded to users’ questions specifically via the above-mentioned X.com post and quoted the source below. Please note that NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR will be present (a question mark remains over Intel XeSS) to gain a few valuable frames per second as needed.
As for the very demanding ray tracing, STALKER 2 should ignore it for fairly variable visual results. Since it was developed on Unreal Engine 5, it can compensate for this with Lumen, an equivalent and potentially less resource-intensive software reflection technology. In any case, you now know whether your machine will be able to run GSC Game World’s post-apo FPS or break down due to radiation levels going through the roof.
