GSC Gaming World announced Stalker 2 Development was put on hold due to the ongoing war with Russia, but will resume once Ukraine wins.
A week before the Russian invasion, the team said in a video, they were editing a new video that would describe the motion capture process. This video is meant to show how the game’s cutscenes are created.
However, due to current events, the editing of the video as well as the development of the game have been suspended.
“On February 24th, Russia declared war on Ukraine and sent rockets, tanks and soldiers to our homeland,” GSC Gaming World said in a statement. “Our country is forced to fight again for survival. It seems that this is the price of freedom.
“This video is our answer to the ‘how are you?’ question. Right now, we’re trying to help our employees and their families survive. Game development moved to the sidelines. But we’ll continue. After the victory. Glory to Ukraine .
Stalker 2 was originally scheduled to release in April of this year, but was pushed back to December 8th as the studio wanted more time to realize its vision and achieve the game’s intended state.
GSC Game World called the game the biggest project in the studio’s history, and said the game required thorough testing and polishing, so development should take “as long as possible” to release a properly done product.
After launch, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
Today, it was revealed that Sony has apparently pulled the Gran Turismo 7 from its Russian PlayStation Store. Launching globally today, the company is said to have made the decision to take the game off the shelves overnight.
CD Projekt has also stopped selling its games through GOG in Russia and Belarus, and EA has pulled Russian teams and clubs from its FIFA offering. The company also stopped selling its games and content, including virtual currency bundles, in Russia and Belarus. It also worked with platform partners to remove games from the store and stopped selling new game content in the region.
Microsoft announced today that it has suspended its new product sales in the country, and other gaming and tech companies have also announced measures against Russia.
