GSC Game World, developer of the long-awaited Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, has announced that the account of one of its employees was compromised by a group of hackers on Russian social networks.
Due to this violation, the developer go to twitter to explain situation and warned ardent fans of a possible leak.
“Recently, the accounts of our employees’ collective image processing application were hacked. A community of Russian social networks claimed responsibility. They threatened to use the obtained data for extortion and intimidation,” the statement began.
This is not the first attempt to hack and leak data belonging to GSC Game World, which shared that it has been under constant cyberattack for a year. “We stand unwaveringly behind our country,” the developer said.
“Despite the attempts to break us down, we remain strong and brave because when you believe in something and love it with all your heart, you have to defend it at all costs. We’ve been through a lot, but these challenges only encourage us to work harder work.”
Due to the hack, GSC Game World has asked players to “not view or distribute information regarding the development of Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl” in the event of any leaks. The leaks may contain outdated or work-in-progress material that could “dilute our impression of the final idea of the game.”
GSC Game World encourages players to be patient and expresses their gratitude to their community. “We have been overwhelmed by your response and support. Thank you. From every single member of the GSC Game World team.”
The statement ended with: “Glory to Ukraine.”
Development on Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl was halted last year while the studio relocated to Prague following Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the game, due for release in 2023, is now open for pre-order.
