The new shooter STALKER 2 could apparently be banned in Russia; That’s what officials suggest.
After many years of developments and delays due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the new shooter STALKER 2 – Heart of Chornobyl is finally set to cause a sensation next week when it is available for PC and Xbox from November 20, 2024. However, the title could also be banned completely in Russia due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Russian government has now suggested that a corresponding ban on the new first-person shooter could be imposed in Russia. The background is therefore anti-Russian attitudes in the game and the supposed justification of terrorism.
The relevant information comes from an interview with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, in which state employee Anton Gorelki commented on this matter. The relevant authority plans to take strict action against the release of the game if the title glorifies the above-mentioned content or portrays the local government as extremists. A complete ban of the game from Russia is also conceivable.
This can have severe consequences for Russian gamers if they still get the shooter via VPN. These could then be viewed as supporting enemy forces, which could result in greater penalties.
