We have already spoken several times about the development of Star Citizena space simulator that promises to take the space experience to another level. A few weeks ago we learned a lot of news during their big CitizenCon event. The developers showed their work, the content that is to come and even an extensive gameplay of Squadron 42which is the campaign mode of the game.
Cloud Imperium Games has made a vital announcement just before the start of the International Aerospace Expo 2954 (IAE), a major in-game event that includes a Free Fly or free entry. And what great news is that? What we know as Wipe will take place, or in Spanish: a data erasure that will eliminate almost all of the players' possessions. It is a practice that is usually carried out in games in development with Star Citizen y Escape From Tarkov.
The developers have indicated what elements will be with this wipe of the Alpha 4.0 version: reputation, money and all objects. This does not include items linked to your account, such as ships and other rewards purchased through different paid packs. This is not a random, gratuitous and/or crazy deletion. It is something that the game warns about before being acquired and that has different purposes for development. They are indicated in the Star Citizen official blog:
Reputation will be reset to prepare for upcoming major updates to quests, guilds, and more advanced systems. To implement these updates effectively, we need to clear all previous progress to ensure a smoother experience across the board.
Economics is another key factor driving this elimination. Over time, wealth has been accumulated, which we will have to restore to continue balancing various economic-based systems. Resetting money data will provide crucial information about player habits, allowing us to refine the economy as we continue to implement new social and economic features.
The introduction of our second system, Pyro, requires a new item database to ensure that all players experience these new updates smoothly. This reset will allow us to track how players discover and use items, which will provide us with valuable information for future versions.
In general, the community has reacted well to this news. “I'm excited to see how the economy changes and how it develops,” says Mecke, whose comment has +145 likes. On the other hand, Spectemus appreciates a communication in advance. Others do not agree, but several responses remember that it was one of the conditions they accepted when they signed up for this adventure. The debate about this is complex.
