Star Fox was once one of the biggest, most important and best game series on Nintendo platforms – and if you believe a usually well-informed insider, the franchise is now celebrating its big comeback on the Switch 2!
According to a new rumor, the well-known and successful Star Fox game series could finally get a new part. Accordingly, Nintendo could release a new Star Fox on the Switch 2, which will presumably be presented and released this year.
The Star Fox series dates back to the Super NES era, where the first part of the franchise provided an extremely good-looking graphical treat that was also convincing in terms of gameplay. As a result, there were several successors on Nintendo consoles and the protagonists such as Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi became the most prominent characters in the Nintendo cosmos, who also appeared in Super Smash Bros., for example.
Star Fox 64 set another high point on the Nintendo 64 and Star Fox Zero was most recently released on the Wii U – but that was back in 2016 and was therefore several years ago. There was no new Star Fox game on the current Switch. But now the tide could possibly be turning – at least according to renowned Nintendo leaker Zippo.
That leaker is considered to be well connected and has often hit the mark with his forecasts and information; However, Zippo wasn’t always right, so there remains a residual risk that this rumor might not come true in the end.
But if we assume the best and it really turns out as Zippo claims, then a new Star Fox should probably appear within the next twelve months. It is also said that Nintendo itself is working on the game – that would be a novelty, as the Japanese last did that in 1997 with Star Fox 64.
According to Zippo, the new game will be a sequel to an earlier Star Fox title and not a reboot. And: An online multiplayer part should take up a significant part of the new game. The game is set to release on the new Switch 2 and could be an early system seller of the new hardware. However, Zippo didn’t want to completely rule out the possibility that it was a cross-gen title that might even be released for the current Switch.
Nintendo last registered a new Star Fox trademark in Brazil in December and there are apparently some Star Fox references in the Nintendo Switch Sports source code, which seems to underline the new speculation. However, this is not a guarantee that a new Star Fox is actually on the way and could appear relatively soon. But we can always have hope! We will of course keep you updated on further developments.
