The long-lived “Star Trek franchise has spawned a whole host of iconic characters. In addition to (for example) Mr. Spock, Jean-Luc Picard and the android Data, Kate Mulgrew has also made her mark as Captain Kathryn Janeway from “Star Trek: Voyager”. played in the hearts of the global fan community – and will remain unforgotten among Trekkies.
Mulgrew has already returned as Captain Janeway’s voice actress in the kid-friendly animated series Star Trek: Prodigy – but what about a comeback in a live-action series from the “Star Trek” universe?
Opposite the site Comicbook.com the actress now spoke about this very topic – and didn’t want to rule out a return to her iconic role! First of all, however, Mulgrew states in the interview that the third season of “Star Trek: Picard” has already been turned off, which makes it impossible to return alongside the numerous TNG icons that have already been officially confirmed.
But then the decisive sentences fall. “But who knows what will happen in the future,” asks the actress, thinking out loud. “It shines here […] to give a tremendous resurrection, a very crucial one.”
“For the first time,” Mulgrew says, she’s looking forward to a return “with new eyes.” Finally, the Janeway actress adds, “I wonder what would happen if Janeway really came back as a live-action character.”
These telling sentences make it clear that Kate Mulgrew can imagine a return to the live-action “Star Trek” universe, and the statements will probably make the hearts of a number of Trekkies beat faster. The only question left is in which of the numerous series of the Paramount+ streaming service the first female captain from a “Star Trek” series could appear…
