With Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, EA and Respawn took their cues from Sekiro. In an interview, game director Stig Asmussen reveals more details about the successor’s combat system. This will do some things differently, for example you can use a whopping five fighting styles.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivors was recently given a release date. As of March 17, 2023, you’ll step back into the shoes of Cal Kestis and cut all kinds of socks with your lightsaber. Where the predecessor Fallen Order was noticeably inspired by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the sequel will make use of elements from Nioh. At least that’s what a GameInformer interview with game director Stig Asmussen suggests.

According to him, there are five fully fleshed out combat styles in Star Wars Jedi: Survivors. Similar to Team Ninja’s Souls-Like, Asmussen says, you need to know your opponent and what type of attack and weapon is most effective. For example, you use a dual blade similar to Darth Maul’s.
Elsewhere, however, a combination of lightsaber and blaster could prove. Also in the arsenal is a cross-handled weapon based on Kylo Ren’s blade. According to Asmussen, this diversity also fits the story of Star Wars Jedi: Survivors. A whole five years have passed since the predecessor, Cal Kestis has learned a lot in that time and the dark forces have become even stronger.
Asmussen has also done a lot when it comes to locomotion. For example, you swing over abysses on climbing ropes or scramble up them. It should also be exciting that Kestis can now also tame animals and then ride them. The game director even puts the word “Metroidvania” in his mouth.
Asmussen goes on to explain which characters you will meet in Star Wars Jedi: Survivors. In addition to the robo buddy BD-1 you will meet, for example, the mercenary Bode Akuna, who has a special bond with Cal.
