It was probably THE surprise of this week in the games industry: The makers of The Division are entering into a cooperation with Lucasfilm Games and are working on a Star Wars game with an open game world. Job advertisements now reveal the first details.
After the announcement of an open-world game in the Star Wars universe, the division creators of Ubisoft’s studio Massive Entertainment have now placed some job advertisements that may reveal initial information from the otherwise previously mysterious game. So far it was only publicized that it should be a game with an open game world based on the Snowdrop Engine.
The job advertisements now allow further assumptions. For example, they are looking for a senior writer and the job description says that the new title should “focus strongly on one story”. There are also references to the description of items and quest logs, so there is a lot to be said for RPG elements, as you already know from the games in the Star Wars series Knights of the Old Republic.
Also interesting: there is talk of a “reality-based narrative thread”. This suggests that the new title is more likely not to focus on the Jedi and their supernatural powers, but probably more on regular residents of the galaxy without access to power. Even the Disney + series “The Mandalorian” turned out to be a strong representative of the franchise without being too dependent on the Jedi.
There is also talk of non-linear structures, which should be an indication of a number of optional side quests in addition to a main plot. So players are allowed to make some decisions about what they want to tackle in the game.
The advertisement for the post of Senior Progress Game Designer explicitly mentions a mixture of role play and action genre. Massive entertainment could therefore stay true to the well-known formula from The Division and take over the function of the successful and successful open-world action RPG more or less in the Star Wars universe.
