With Star Wars: Outlaws, Ubisoft has announced a promising new sci-fi adventure that takes you to different planets. But how big are they actually? There is now a statement from the developers about this.
How big will the game world of the newly announced Star Wars: Outlaws be, which is playfully very promising? It’s clear that you can’t expect an epic space adventure like Starfield, but how big will it be compared to the Assassin’s Creed games, for example?
In an interview with Edge Magazine, Creative Director Julian Gerighty commented on the subject and emphasized once again that Kay Vess’ journey will not take place on entirely procedurally – i.e. randomly – generated planets. Instead, each planet will have large open areas for you to explore.
Each of the planets should take on the size of two regions or zones, as was the case in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey in ancient Greece. As a reminder, the historically-tinged epic encompassed a total of seven regions and is considered a fairly extensive offshoot within the Assassin’s Creed series. So if Outlaws only had four playable planets, it would be bigger than Odyssey.
“It’s a rough analogy, but the size of a planet could be equivalent to two of the zones in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. It could be two to three zones,” Gerighty said. At the same time, he emphasizes that one would not approach the matter as ambitiously as, for example, reproducing the whole of England, as is the case in Valhalla – and that was sometimes criticized for its sheer scope even by fans. So they should take a deep breath that you won’t be on individual planets for so long in Outlaws.
At the end of the day, the big question is how many planets will there be in Star Wars: Outlaws; this will then define the actual scope of the game. There are no official statements from Ubisoft in this regard.
Star Wars: Outlaws is scheduled for 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
