Star Wars: Republic Commando will be available on April 6th for PS4 and PS5. Why shouldn’t we be joking with this ad? Quite simply because it is the first time that this FPS is playable on a PlayStation console. The 2005 release had only taken place on PC and Xbox.
“Between tradition and modernity”
Aspyr Media is responsible for bringing this “classic” to Sony machines. And the studio says more about that PlayStation blog ::
In Star Wars Republic Commando you can rely on your reliable blaster rifle and the elite unit of your clone troops. The game gives the first person shooter genre a tactical dimension with squad controls.
You play as the leader of the Delta Squad, known as RC-1138, Delta Trois-Huit or even Boss. But the clones are never alone. Your squad is a real weapon, especially when directing operations. Of course, your soldiers can stay in formation and use their own tactics, but the way you lead your squad is key to victory.
Among these maneuvers, you can ask them to perform specific tasks, such as: B. Destroying elements of the environment, opening doorways, locating and killing targets, or even gathering behind you. Your squad can even revive you if you fall on the field of honor!
You may never have played Star Wars Republic Commando, but you have undoubtedly seen the Delta Squad in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series, particularly in the episode The Wizards of the Mist. By the way, this was the first appearance of a clone commando in this series!
This, of course, isn’t the only connection between the Delta Squad and the Star Wars universe as a whole. Boba Fett, Jango Fett and the fearless Delta Squad leader Delta Trois-Eight were all voiced by Temuera Morrison, who has just returned to The Mandalorian season two as Boba Fett.
Here at Aspyr we respect the classics. We had the heart to replicate the Star Wars Republic Commando true to the original and at the same time to give it a touch of modernity.
What worked in 2005 is not necessarily adapted to the current equipment. For this reason we have adapted the controls to the wireless controllers DualShock 4 and DualSense.
Obviously, no Portage of Aspyr would be complete without some new trophies being dropped. As you progress in the game, you will win trophies for completing campaigns, but also for fending off Droden. My favorite trophy is called Squeaky Clean: you get it by keeping your tactical vision pristine.
