Ah, nothing beats the smell of fresh Star Wars announcements in the morning. A brand new TV series starring Jude Law has just been announced as part of the 2022 Star Wars Celebration, coming to Disney+ in 2023. The name: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. This is also out of the bag, which was rumored two weeks ago: That Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) will direct a Star Wars series with a very special focus on content. Let’s take a look at the details.
When does Star Wars: Skeleton Crew play? And what’s the point?
Star Wars seems to know only two eras in the live-action area at the moment: that of the empire – and that shortly after. The former is covered, for example, in the new Andor trailer:

However, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place after Episode 6 – in the same period as The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett. The series revolves around a group of 10-year-old kids from a small planet who get caught up in a galactic adventure and have to find a way back home.
Why is that exciting?
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes a very fresh perspective: that of children. So far, that’s only been in a few Clone Wars episodes, through Anakin’s eyes in Episode 1, and of course, through the great movie masterpiece Ewoks: Caravan of the Brave. Oh, and of course there were long-forgotten books like the Young Jedi Knights series as told by Jacen and Jaina Solo.

Screenwriter Christopher Ford emphasizes that although the series is about children, it is not necessarily only worth seeing for children – but of course you also want to avoid that adult fans dismiss Skeleton Crew as children’s stuff. Many viewers initially made the mistake of The Clone Wars as well.
When will Skeleton Crew be released?
As previously mentioned, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is slated to hit Disney+ sometime in 2023 – similar to the new Kenobi series right now. Filming will begin very soon after the current Star Wars Celebration. We remain curious.
By the way, in our overview of all other Star Wars films and series you will find the rest of the announcements of the Star Wars Celebration. Something could also happen in terms of gaming, after all, there was only recently the first alleged information about the successor to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Ah, finally more Star Wars again.
