Microsoft and Bethesda have already held Developer_Direct this year and commented on numerous upcoming titles – with the exception of the sci-fi epic Starfield. That is to be presented much more comprehensively in its own showcase – and now it could be quite soon.
While official confirmation is still pending, several reports from well-known gaming industry insiders are now suggesting that Microsoft and Bethesda are close to actually announcing and running the planned Starfield showcase.
First of all, there is Andy Robinson, editor-in-chief of the Video Games Chronicle, who got the topic rolling in the first place with his tweet yesterday. “I hear the announcement of the Starfield Showcase is imminent,” said Robinson.
This tweet was subsequently picked up by other well-known insiders who have proven in the past that their sources are reliable. Among others here are the YouTube rand Al Thor 19 and Jez Corden, the editor of Windows Central as well as operator of Xbox-Two-Podcasts, to name.
While Robinson otherwise didn’t reveal any further info, Rand and Corden went a little further in the aforementioned podcast. Rand, citing a private conversation, emphasized that Microsoft and Bethesda will announce the showcase next week. Corden added that he had heard similar things.
Rand goes as far as adding that he’s been picking up rumors since before last year’s Game Awards in December that the Starfield Showcase was always scheduled for March or April 2023. In any case, based on the information available from several different sources, it really seems to be the case that we will soon learn much more about Starfield.
Bethesda originally announced the sci-fi epic Starfield at E3 2018 after applying for a trademark for the game back in 2013. Todd Howard once described the game as “Skyrim in space”; this should offer fights on planetary surfaces as well as in space itself. Players will be able to customize and upgrade their ships, establish colonies and explore over 1,000 planets.
