Bethesda promised to be good and give Starfield further updates. One of them is already underway and is scheduled to enter the beta branch on Steam this week.
Update 24.01.2024:
Naaah, that was probably nothing. As Bethesda announced via Twitter, the new patch is not going into beta today. The reason for this is apparently a problem that still needs to be fixed. But don’t worry, Bethesda is still trying to push out the update this week.

To call Starfield a flop would certainly be a mistake given that it currently has over 13 million players. It’s probably true that this crowd isn’t 100% happy with the game. After all, the game has already received a lot of criticism, from (comparatively few) bugs to static dialogue sequences to questionable planetary exploration.
After all, Bethesda had already promised to further improve the sci-fi epic and an important step is now imminent. On Wednesday, January 17th, the next big update on Steam will enter the beta phase and the update will contain over 100 fixes and improvements.
The complete patch notes will not be published until the update goes live in the beta branch, but the developers have already provided some insights. Textures, lighting and shadows should be improved, as well as stability optimizations and additional widescreen support. There are also numerous fixes for existing quest bugs on board.
There are also improvements to sun disk geometry and planetary ring shadows, fixes for ship hatches being marked as inaccessible, and a further fix for the persistent issue of asteroids tracking ships.
Bethesda assumes that the final update can be released for all platforms within two weeks of the start of the beta, i.e. at the beginning of February, so it should be on schedule.
