Valve has announced that Steam Deck release will be delayed to February 2022 due to global supply chain issues.
Steam Deck Has Been Delayed to February 2022 Due to Global Supply Chain Issues
When Steam Deck was first announced the release window was set for December this year, just in time for the holiday season for those looking to pick up the portable gaming device, aiming to play games from your Steam library. However, Valve has now announced a delay in the release of the Switch competitor, which will now launch in February 2022 instead.
The reason for the delay seems to be the ongoing “global supply chain issues” which has caused “material shortages”. This means the release of the Steam Deck has now been pushed to next year, with reservation date estimates being updated shortly according to the Steam Deck website.

Previously the first batch of Steam Deck devices were made available through pre-ordering, with limited quantities available for only those who had a Steam account before June 2021. The device comes with a number of features that will rival that of the Switch including being able to connect the Steam Deck to your TV without the need for a dock, but a dock accessory is available if you want to play tabletop mode, offers a number of connections or plug into your TV. The device is also supposed to play “pretty much anything you can run on a PC” according to Pierre-Loup Griffais.
