The Nintendo Switch has given many ideas to the various manufacturers and in particular to Valve, which has decided to take the concept of Nintendo and extend it to the PC world. In fact, last summer the American giant presented the Steam Deck, a portable console that has it under the hood. Well today, after missing the initial release date (which should be sometime in December), the machine just got a new ignition window. So are you ready to take your PC games with you wherever you go?

A release date for the portable console

The official Steam Twitter account gives us the big news: The Steam Deck, the Steam-compatible portable console, will be available in a few days from February 28th. In other words, release is imminent! Players who have pre-ordered their copy of this little machine will receive an email starting February 25, 2022. Please note that to be sure to take a copy with you, be on the lookout and respond to the email you receive within 72 hours, as I attest to the press release below.

It’s almost the big day! On February 25th, we will send out the first batch of order notification emails to people who have a reservation. You then have 3 days (72 hours) from the date you receive this email to complete your purchase. After this time, your reservation will be given to the next person in line. The first copies will start shipping on the 28th and we plan to send new batches of order emails every week. valve, via steam

First come first serve

You are probably asking yourself the question: “How are the invitations going?”. Well, it’s very simple: Players who reserved their machine first will also be served first. Valve actually claimed that “order notification emails are sent on a first-come, first-served basis.” So no tie… As a reminder, the Steam Deck 64GB model is $419, the 256GB model is $549 and the 512GB model is $679.

Good news ! In addition, to prevent scalpers (holding PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in their hands) from usurping the entire inventory, Valve has announced that it will only be possible to purchase the reserved model, which means that there will actually only be one console per person being sent.

The characteristics of the machine

If the Valve machine closely resembles a Nintendo Switch, note that its performance remains much higher. The Steam Deck is indeed designed to run your Steam games in the best possible conditions. It will thus be possible to display video game productions in 8K at 60 Hz and in 4K at 120 Hz via a video output. The screen is now 1280 by 800 pixels in size. Also note that everything does not run on a Windows operating system, but on a home operating system, SteamOS 3.0.

List of technical characteristics of the steam deck:

  • A 7-inch IPS screen (1280 x 800px)
  • 64 / 256 or 512 GB memory
  • A 40Wh battery (2 to 8 hours of battery life)”’
  • A USB-C port for charging”’
  • An AMD RDNA 2 graphics card (1.0-1.6 GHz)”’
  • An AMD Zen 2 processor (2.4-3.5 GHz)”’
