Valve revealed how Steam Next Fest can help increase the discoverability and sales of games on the platform.
Valve announced some very promising results Steam next festival Held in 2020. Steam Next Fests (formerly known as Steam Game Festival) is a digital event that focuses on a large number of games from different genres, including developer-led live broadcasts and playable demos.
The goal is obviously to help solve Steam’s discoverability issues, and it seems to work well. In a blog post, Valve revealed that compared to two weeks ago, the daily wish list for games participating in Fests 2020 (median) during the event has increased by 421%.
This applies to approximately half of the participating games, while 45% of the games have a small increase. Strangely, 5% of the game’s wish list rate actually dropped. Valve also observed that even after the event ended, the wish list to participate in the game was still high, and within three weeks after the event ended, the daily wish list increased by 15%.
Of course, although the wish list does help improve the image of the game on Steam in many ways, the most important thing in the end is sales. To measure the conversion of the wish list into sales, Valve looked at the participating games released after the event. Compared to the same metrics in previous weeks, the “median” game’s wish list conversion sales during the holiday season increased by 292%.
In other words, during Steam Next Fests, more people wanted to get the game, and as a result, more of these people eventually bought the game.
Although Valve did not disclose specific player engagement figures, the developer indicated that player interest continues to grow. For example, compared to 2020 events, the wish list in Fests in 2021 has increased.
The next Steam Next Fest will be held from October 1st to 7th. Developers must register and submit the game before August 15th.
