The e-bikes tested by Stiftung Warentest cost between 1,100 and 4,500 dollars. 11 Pedelecs for trekking took part in the big comparison test. There will be a new test winner in 2024.
- Stiftung Warentest has tested eleven trekking bikes, including those from brands such as Cube, Kalkhoff and KTM.
- All e-bikes tested received at least a “satisfactory” rating.
- The price of the Pedelecs ranges between 1,100 and 4,500 dollars.
- Models rated “Good” are available from 3,200 dollars.
Anyone considering buying a new e-bike will be overwhelmed by the range on offer. Many interested parties consult test reports when making their purchase decision. The verdict from Stiftung Warentest in particular carries considerable weight.
For the June 2024 issue, Stiftung Warentest took a closer look at eleven trekking e-bikes. To make it easier to compare, the basic equipment of the models is similar. All of them come with a mid-engine, hydraulic disc brakes and integrated batteries.
Of course, all models comply with the StVZO and can be legally ridden on the road. The weight of the e-bikes is between 22 and over 30 kilograms. Modern models are hard to come by that weight. The Canyon Pathlite:ON SL 6, which we tested and classified as “lightweight”, also weighs 22 kilograms.
Last year, a model from the Austrian manufacturer KTM won the Stiftung Warentest comparison. And in 2024? Six e-bikes tested received a “good” rating, the remaining models achieved a “satisfactory” rating. None of the pedelecs tested were really bad. Nevertheless, there are big differences in the test field.
The bottom line is that a KTM model won the race again in 2024. With a score of 1.8, the KTM Macina Gran 610, which costs just under 3,000 dollars, received the “price tip” award. The actual test winner comes from Germany, from Kalkhoff. The Endeavour 5 Advance+ model was able to completely convince the testers. It costs 3,800 dollars. The testers described both models as “fantastic, robust and safe”.
