Star Wars: The Acolytes took a long time to really get going, but it finally gave a fresh take on the story between the Jedi and the Sith, and we hope to see more of it. Now, Disney and Lucasfilm are starting to promote Skull Squad, a movie that returns to the New Republic era of the Star Wars galaxy (adjacent to The Mandalorian), but this adventure will be a much more lighthearted affair.
Created by Jon Watts, director of the recent Spider-Man trilogy, and his longtime collaborator Christopher Ford, Skeletor has long been described as a coming-of-age story with heavy 1980s influences, set in the sprawling Star Wars universe. Think The Goonies or Stranger Things (where things also reportedly get spooky), but in a galaxy far, far away. Now, People has confirmed it all, and given us brand new details, in its first look at the series.

“The Star Wars universe is interesting… and there are a lot of references to old movies and recent shows and series. There’s a lot of originality, and I hope it’s going to be fun for the audience,” said Jude Law, who plays the mysterious new character Jord na’N’Wood. For the most part, Jude Law has to act alongside a much younger cast, including Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Carrianna Kratt (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel), and Ryan-Kira Armstrong (Fern). British celebrity Nick Frost has also been confirmed to voice the robot SM-33. “He’s like a rusty, grumpy robot who reluctantly helps the kids along the way… The other thing about him is that he’s the first mate of a mysterious ship,” Watts explained. While we haven’t seen a publicly released trailer (that may change soon), nor have we learned much about the Practical
The next entry in the Star Wars franchise, however, is Star Wars: Outlaws, Ubisoft Massive’s ambitious open-world game and first in the series, coming later this month. The game will take us into the murky underworld of the galaxy between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, so by launching this AAA game before Skull Outlaws, we may have already entered the more dangerous, terrestrial elements of Star Wars.
