No matter how bad your day is, this news will put a smile on your face: a Shiba Inu named “Peanutbutter” won the Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB game at this year’s Summer Quick Game. Not only that, but the pooch won in pretty dramatic fashion, with a little help from his owner.

If you’re not familiar with Peanut Butter, he’s the dog of speedrunner JSR_, famous for playing NES games like Gyromite through a control system that seemed to provide control inputs based on rewards provided by human companions. That’s pretty cool.

At this year’s SGDQ, PB joined a performance of the 1994 NES classic Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, with his goal being to win a game as Griffey’s Seattle Mariners – thereby accidentally providing a strange side note to the history of baseball’s most interesting franchise.

In the dugout of the opposing team, the Minnesota Twins, the “villains” had a tough game, trailing by one run early on, but fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring a run to tie the game (look, if you’re confused right now and want to better understand what all this means, you can stop and do a quick Google of the word “baseball”), and were nearly locked up by their opponents.

The game ended up going into extra innings – baseball games only go 9 innings unless the score is tied after all the balls have been played. Then, in the bottom of the 12th inning, with the score tied at 3 and a runner on second base, PB, playing Ken Griffey Jr, came up to bat and did what you see in the video below.

Yes, it was a home run that scored both Griffey and the stranded base runner, thus instantly ending the game with a walk-off hit. 5-3 Mariners, ball game, Dogs win. As you can see here again, everyone in the audience went wild.

“I’m so proud of this dog, man. This was the best moment of both of our lives. What a great dog,” JSR_ tweeted, summing up the night, and he was right, the PB was awesome.
