Netzwelt looks into the big crystal ball and tells you which fan favorites and characters are likely to die in the epic “Stranger Things” finale.
It won’t be long until the 4th season of “Stranger Things” finally comes to an end. The final two extra-long episodes, simply called Part 2, will start on July 1, 2022 on the Netflix streaming service. Various actors* of the popular retro mystery series have already woken up fans in recent weeks multiple character deaths in the grand finale.
So of course we asked ourselves: So who dies in Stranger Things Season 4 Part 2?
Read our prediction for the grand finale here – although the whole thing is of course without guarantee!
Elfie/ Eleven does not die
Played by superstar Millie Bobby Brown, Elfie is staying alive according to our prediction. Because if there’s anything like a main character in the ensemble series Stranger Things, it’s her.
Part 1 of Season 4 dealt extensively with how Elfie regains her powers. Now in the finale there will be a big fight with the main villain Vecna, but Elfie will definitely survive this in the end to be part of Season 5 as well.
dr Martin Brenner dies
Matthew Modine plays Dr. Martin Brenner, who is occasionally called “Papa” by Elfie. He helped her get her powers back in Part 1 of Season 4. But viewers also saw the more than dark side of his experiments on children.
The trailer for part 2 of the 4th season of “Stranger Things” now shows the US military attacking Brenner’s bunker. Elfie seems to escape in the end, but the bunker blows up in a massive explosion. It would be conceivable here that Dr. Brenner sacrifices himself in his final moments to make amends for Elfie for having done so much to her.
Mike, Dustin, Will and Lucas don’t die
The original Friends squad from Season 1 will probably behave similarly to Elfie. Now let’s be honest: If Netflix really let one (or even all!) of the four jump over the blade, there would probably be a number of nervous breakdowns among “Stranger Things” fans. It also seems unlikely (and would be extremely cruel) to let such young teenage characters die.
Steve, Jonathan or Arglye die
Many “Stranger Things” fans are speculating on a death for Steve, who in the last few episodes from Part 1 also set out for the Upside Down with a lot of defiance of death (or heroism). Especially Nancy, who seems to be developing feelings for Steve again, would be hit extremely hard by this death.
But Nancy’s current boyfriend Jonathan or his stoner buddy Arglye could also die. Jonathan hasn’t been particularly prominent in Season 4’s storyline so far, but he’s also known for daring acts. Several of the characters in Hawkins would suffer greatly from his death.
In the case of Arglye, who was particularly active as comic relief in part 1, a character death would carry less weight…
Joyce and Hopper survive
Hopper seemed doomed to die by the end of Stranger Things season 3 – only to return. Meanwhile, Joyce went to the Soviet Union to rescue him. It now seems extremely unlikely that Season 4 will end with Hopper’s death (or fake death).
Rather, the “Stranger Things” makers Joyce and Hopper will probably indulge in brief moments of happiness together in season 5…
Eddie’s odds are fifty-fifty
Predicting Eddie’s fate is actually quite difficult. The character played by Joseph Quinn is THE newcomer of the 4th “Stranger Things” season and is basically universally loved by viewers and fans. That speaks volumes for Eddie’s survival.
But then he’s only been around since season 4, which considerably reduces a character’s chances of survival. A death of an older teenager would also be a little easier for fans to cope with (cue: Billy).
In the trailer for Part 2, Eddie plays guitar in the Upside Down in a super-cool way. Should he really die in the final two episodes of season 4, the series makers would certainly regret it later.
Nancy and Robin (probably) don’t die
For the two characters Nancy and Robin, who seemed to become best friends in part 1 of the 4th “Stranger Things” season, the chances of survival are also rather good. Part 2 promotional material already shows that Nancy will survive her confrontation with Vecna intact. The friendship and wonderful buddy dynamic between the two also has a lot of potential for the final 5th season of the Netflix series.
Jason dies in Part 2
Bully and basketball player Jason Carver was one of the main human villains of Season 4 Part 1. He led the hunt for Eddie and will – as the trailer reveals – fight Lucas in Part 2. His chances of surviving are therefore pretty slim.
Max will survive
The popular character Max caused the huge Kate Bush hype when she listened to her song “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” on her Walkman in Part 1 on a continuous loop. Of course, Max will still be in great danger in the final 2 episodes of Season 4, but letting her die now would probably break the heart of “Stranger Things” viewers too much.
Dmitri dies in Stranger Things Season 4 Part 2
German actor and ex-“Game of Thrones” star Tom Wlaschiha plays the character Dmitri, Hopper’s former jailer. Dmitri switched sides in Part 1 and is clearly one of the show’s newcomers in Season 4.
As much as we’d love to see him go back to his little son unharmed, he will unfortunately bless the time in part 2. There are 2 good reasons for this: Dmitri is a new character in Season 4 and that’s why his chances are slim. Also, he’s unlikely to go to the US with Murray, Hopper and Joyce. But if he weren’t there in season 5 anyway, then he can (almost) easily die in combat in the Soviet Union.
Murray and Dr. Owens probably survive
Just like stoner Arglye, conspiracy theorist Murray and Dr. Owens reliable for comedic highlights and warm-hearted moments. We therefore consider it unlikely that the two will die in part 2 – especially since they have both been part of the game for a few seasons.
However, both will also be in dangerous settings in the grand finale of the 4th “Stranger Things” season. dr Owens must survive the military attack on the bunker, while Murray may also sacrifice himself in Russia (along with Dmitri?) for Joyce and Hopper. So nothing is certain here.
Eternal “stirbt”
And finally, a daring prognosis: Vecna, THE villain of the 4th “Stranger Things” season, will most likely die in the final two episodes – if one can speak of it at all in his case.
Because usually the “Stranger Things” monsters from the Upside Down don’t survive the season finale. Only if Vecna were still intended as an antagonist in season 5 would he probably “survive.”
