If you watched Season 4 of Stranger Things and took a look at Vinka and thought ‘God, I hope that’s me’, you’re in luck, because Stranger Things VR Make this dream come true!
Strangers Things VR is made by virtual reality developer Tender Claws in partnership with Netflix, and instead of putting you in the role of a kid, this time you’re playing season four’s big bad Vecna. In this role, you’ll hack into the characters’ memories and dreams, and you’ll be able to “fight humans and creatures with telekinesis” (via Eurogamer).
The game is described as a “psychological horror/action game”, so it might not be for the faint of heart. It’s also planned for all major VR platforms, but doesn’t specify what those platforms are, should launch in winter 2023, but there aren’t many more details than that.
In a joint statement, directors Samantha Gorman and Danny Cannizzaro said: “We are thrilled to be living in the Stranger Things universe, and through Tender Claws’ unique approach to nested worlds and immersive dreams dives into the rich inner worlds of its characters.” .
“As fans, we wanted this game to be very special, and we were inspired by the support and enthusiasm we received from Netflix and the Stranger Things creative team.”
It’s unclear if the game is planned to be tied directly to the show, or if it’s just something of its own, but either way it seems like a really cool way to experience the story of a fan-favorite villain.
Netflix recently acquired the developer Elf FoxThe developers behind Animal Crossing – Adjacent Cozy Grove, so it’s clear that the streaming giant is still interested in expanding into the gaming world, even if (as of August) only 1% of its user base is playing games. A good reason to play with them as much as possible just in case they get carried away.
