Street Fighter 6 looks like hell – let’s make that clear from the start. It represents a massive fix to SFV’s controversially wrong steps, but it doesn’t throw away everything from previous games: everything salvageable has been iterated and improved upon, incorporating SF4, SF5, and a wide range of new ideas .
Alex’s hands-on session with the Tokyo Game Show build focuses on four newly revealed characters: the powerful but awkward Guile first. Juri, her SF6 incarnation is an improvement over her SF5 version, but brings in some of her favorite moves from SF4. Kimberly, a brand new character from SF6, but with strong ties to the wider Capcom lore.
Finally, Ken Masters; dazzled in his “she’s already been bad for us” period costume. Despite the divorce chic, it’s still old Ken: If he were the main character in 1991, he’d feel like home. Suppose she doesn’t get the house.
Visually, it’s the best looking Street Fighter in the 3D era, and for our money, it has the most beautiful character designs since Street Fighter 2. Capcom is also grappling with Street Fighter’s infamous World Tour tutorial, one of SF6’s three signature modes that the publisher described earlier this year as an “immersive single-player story” for For anyone who loves Street Fighter but hates (everyone) online, this is music.
If Capcom can release everything in the first quarter of 2023, and the price is right, it will be a clear winner.
