The sparrows were already whistling it from the rooftops, but since last night’s State of Play it’s official: Street Fighter 6 is on its way and continues one of the most well-known beat’em-up series.
Capcom took the stage at Sony’s State of Play event last night to officially announce the continuation of the Street Fighter brawler franchise; At least a first teaser clip had already been published by Street Fighter 6 before far more details were made public.
Accordingly, the next part of the long-standing and iconic series will be released worldwide in the coming year 2023. The makers are promising the “next evolution of the series”, which debuted 35 years ago and has sold more than 47 million copies. Technically, you use your own RE engine for this.
Playfully, three new different modes will be on board: Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub. New gameplay features, improved graphics and addressing almost every single aspect of the brawl game are also planned. You will then be able to convince yourself of this on the platforms PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and PC; the Xbox One, however, is apparently no longer served.
According to Capcom, the official Street Fighter 6 feature list reads as follows:
- Brand new game modes: The street fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new core modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Comments: The real-time commentary feature brings the voices of well-known Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Jeremy “Vicious” Lopez and Ryutaro “Aru” Noda right into the game. Players will have a choice of different stars commenting directly on the battles with easy-to-understand gameplay explanations. The feature will also support subtitles in 13 languages for better accessibility.
- New control options: Classic controls are back, along with a new option. The modern control allows players to jump directly into the action with simplified inputs. This makes special attacks easier to execute, as you only have to press an action button and perform a directional input.
- New core combat mechanics: Street Fighter 6 introduces the Drive System, a new meter to perform five specific techniques to expand a player’s offensive or defensive options, namely: Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Overdrive Art, Drive Rush and Drive Reversal .
Elsewhere, popular modes from previous installments such as Arcade, Online Matches, Practice Mode, Local Versus, and the Fighting Ground experience are making a comeback. New playable characters will be confirmed later this year.
