Street Fighter finally hits the big time on PC.release street fighter 6 Not only does that prove the point, it also shows that the long-running fighting game series is capable of surpassing even the most popular fighting game on Steam.
The fighting game scene on PC has never really been huge, at least when you look at Steam data for different games at launch and since. Unsurprisingly, the only major player in the space is Mortal Kombat – but NetherRealm’s reign appears to be over.
Street Fighter VI, which debuted less than 24 hours ago, is now firmly on Steam as the most played fighting game of all time with 65,873 concurrent players (via SteamDB). Even setting aside the possibility of further player base growth throughout the day and weekend, this is already a new record for the series.
What’s more, it beats Mortal Kombat 11’s peak concurrency of 35,147, the peak set by the NetherRealm game when it launched in 2019. Putting aside the 153,433 peak concurrency of free hits like MultiVersus, Street Fighter 6 is easily the most popular advanced fighter on the platform.
At the time of writing, there are currently 45,508 players exploring the wonders of the World Tour mode, dueling other players online, or just playing some friendly matches with local players. That was enough to land it at No. 13 on the Steam charts, and it’s already the best-selling paid game on the platform.
With its modern controls, a set of modes for players of all skills to enjoy (something Street Fighter 5 was severely lacking), and a modern visual style that balances realism with graphical fidelity – Street Fighter 6 always looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere. The vantage point of change is something that is timeless for the series and the fighting game genre as a whole.
