The Street Fighter series of beating games will not only get a new gaming offshoot in part 6 this summer. As has now been confirmed, a new film project about the brand is also in the works.
Legendary Entertainment is working on a new film adaptation of the Street Fighter fighting game series. This is the studio behind successful films like “Detective Pikachu”, “Pacific Rim” or “Godzilla vs. Kong”.
Work on the project has now been officially announced via the Street Fighter series Twitter account. Reactions have been mixed, ranging from hype from brawler franchise fans and influencers to negative memories from those who watched the horrifying 1994 film adaptation.
However, it is not yet known which heads are working specifically on the new film adaptation. Neither a director nor the writer have been communicated so far. The orientation of the strip also remains to be seen. It will certainly be exciting to see which audience Legendary and Capcom are aiming for with the film.
We will of course keep you informed of further developments.
Street Fighter 6 will be available on June 2nd, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
