The live-action Street Fighter movie is on the way! Legendary would have found the perfect reals to handle it.

We told you a few weeks ago: A new live-action street fighter movie is currently in the pipeline at Legendary, the production company behind the feature film Dune, which recently bought the film and television rights to the franchise. An announcement in a press release. No further details have been announced yet, but this week we learn that the film would have found two directors: Australian brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, who were already working on the horror film Talk to Me. The film, which tells the story of a young woman who summons a spirit, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. They are also known for their comedy horror YouTube channel RackaRacka. For now, the duo is negotiating their deal with Legendary.

The Philippous were the festival’s most prominent filmmakers, courted day and night by agencies and film companies before and after their film’s premiere. They eventually signed with WME. (They are managed by Authentic Talent and Literary Management).

The duo have capitalized on the popularity of their movie, which hits theaters July 28, and landed a lucrative Street Fighter deal worth just over seven figures, sources say – The Hollywood Reporter.

Succession after failure?

You probably know that the flagship saga of versus fighting was adapted back in the 90’s starring Byron Mann, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raúl Julia; Behind the camera, we found Street Fighter Steven E. de Souza, the screenwriter of several hit action films, including Piège de Cristal (Die Hard). Unfortunately, the film gets a poor 13% score on Rotten Tomatoes. A few years later, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li doesn’t really fare any better, capitalizing not only on the name of a cult franchise, but also on its leading lady, namely Kristin Kreuk (Smallville – Lana Lang). Result: 3% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Appropriate for Street Fighter 6
