Sonos is adding a second subwoofer model to its home theater lineup. As the name suggests, the Sub Mini is smaller and cheaper than its big brother, the Sonos Sub.
- Sonos releases a second subwoofer.
- The Sub Mini will hit the German market in October.
- In terms of price, the Sub Mini is significantly cheaper than its larger role model.
The Sonos Sub Mini will be launched on October 6th and is intended to complete Sonos’ home cinema line-up, which previously consisted of three different soundbars and just one (large) subwoofer, the Sonos Sub.
Even the Sonos Sub Mini still comes at a price
In terms of price, Sonos places the Sub Mini well below its big brother (RRP 850 dollars), but 500 dollars is still a lot of money. For your money you then get two inward-firing 6-inch force-cancelling woofers. The housing, which is available in matt black and white, is designed to prevent distortion and improve bass reproduction.

The Sub Mini is compatible with the Sonos One or, for example, the Symfonisk speakers from Ikea. The new, smaller subwoofer should be able to be ideally calibrated using Trueplay. However, the tool is only available for iOS devices. Meanwhile, Android users look into the (uncalibrated) bass tube or have to align the Sub Mini themselves as best as possible.
Problems with the Sonos Sub
For friends of the manufacturer Sonos, the Sub Mini could be a suitable solution. Finally, the problems with the larger model, the Sonos Sub, don’t stop. A large number of users complained about the annoying operating noise of the large subwoofer solution from Sonos.
One can only hope that Sonos has got these problems under control with the Sub Mini. So far, even new hardware variants have not helped with the Sonos Sub, according to some entries in user forums.
