Story

Whether Batman fans like it, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is an integral part of the Arkhamverse with everything that comes with it, both for the characters and the story. The title, developed by Rocksteady Studios, is the direct continuation of the Arkham saga and its plot is based on the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. The otherworldly conqueror named Brainiac is targeting planet Earth with the intention of conquering it. To this end, he used clever brainwashing to enlist the services of the Justice League, transforming Superman, Batman and even Green Lantern into docile and powerful servants.

In the face of this unprecedented threat The secret paramilitary government agency ARGUS is taking some of the DC Universe’s worst criminals out of their cells to kill Justice League members one by one… exactly that. It has to be said that our four anti-heroes don’t really have a choice. ARGUS boss Amanda Waller implanted a nanobomb in them without their knowledge. The deal is simple: succeed in the ascension mission or die trying. Unfortunately for fans of the Dark Knight, this can only mean one thing. Batman’s death marks, in a sense, the end of the Arkhamverse.

Among the game’s many qualities is its purely plastic beauty. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is beautifully and meticulously produced. The game can also count on an engine that has proven itself many times over… Unreal Engine 4… to This makes this version of Metropolis an apocalyptic splendor. Sure, hardly a soul lives in Superman and the Justice League’s stronghold, but that’s completely understandable. Task Force Metropolis has fallen victim to Brainiac and his metahuman henchmen. In this large city that has become a necropolis, only the buildings and a handful of survivors need to be saved.

The city once protected by the Man of Steel shines with its vast, depopulated spaces, but above all with its verticality, which transforms this urban center into a real playground for the Suicide Squad. The only reason this open world has been stripped of its inhabitants is because it is the location of the Suicide Squad. Metropolis is neither a city nor an open world in the first sense of the word. It is a simple and huge arena that stretches as far as the eye can see. However, Kill the Justice League can be proud of its anti-heroes and neo-villains. The creation of the cutscenes is thanks to the game, as is the modeling and the special facial animation of the characters. “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” could be an animated feature film that hits theaters without any retouching.

It’s time to get to the bottom of the matter. A video game is judged primarily by its gameplay. Rocksteady studios wanted to create a multiplayer video game and they succeeded… but at what cost? Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice belongs to the looter shooter genre and this decision by the creative teams is not without consequences. It’s actually the opposite. Both terms perfectly summarize the fun adventure that awaits you. Eliminate thousands of enemies and obtain equipment to return to missions again and again in the eternal search for power.

Fortunately, The feeling of shooting and movement is excellent. This is an essential prerequisite for a good time alongside Task Force. It is truly exciting to shoot down Brainiac’s forces and flutter over Metropolis with the four anti-heroes that make up the Suicide Squad. Then Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark and Captain Boomerang play really differently even if their gameplay inevitably relies on common ground.

Things just get worse from here on out. Kill the Justice League suffers from several problems that sometimes undermine the developers’ efforts to create the best game possible. The bestiary is not varied enough to renew interest in combat and The artificial intelligence that powers it is far too simple to compensate for this lack of variety. The boss fights against the Justice League, which are supposed to be the climax of a superhero epic, are not memorable enough to make us forget the dozens of similar skirmishes that preceded the duels against Superman, Green Lantern, etc. Worse, Batman’s is probably the most disappointing of them all. A shame for the character that gave birth to the Arkhamverse.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League shines in a completely different area: that of loot. And to plunder, you will plunder en masse. British studios are not reinventing the wheel and certainly not the genre, but are seriously applying its fundamentals. The steady rise of Task Force X is a prime example of this kind. Between passive abilities, new skills, weapons and other items to equip… the progression is slow but sure and this is noticeable during battles. RPG fans will not be disoriented in any way by this fiendishly effective, if not innovative, mechanic. It is even possible and highly recommended to specialize the four members of the Suicide Squad to turn them into harbingers of death.

scenario

Who says, says Suicide Squad in 2024 offbeat tone and schoolboy humor. “Kill the Justice League” is no exception to the rule in this regard and should appeal to fans of the 2021 James Gunn-directed film “The Suicide Squad.” The writers at work love these anti-heroes and it shows. He gets out of the game a real passion for these criminals who are forced to act for the common good. It’s refreshing to experience a superhero epic that skilfully oscillates between over-the-top epic and unrestrained nonsense. But the adventure starts on the hard side with a really cumbersome flashforward tutorial which only serves to introduce each character and their gameplay peculiarities…we’ve seen better!

It’s clear that the writer who created this apocalyptic tale was inspired by comics to create his own vision of Brainiac’s invasion and the fall of the Justice League. This transition to the enemy is also completely hidden by the production. The game prefers to mention it rather than show it or, better yet, experience it. Fans of the DC Universe are content with a few lines of dialogue, as there are no nice cutscenes that illustrate the urgency of the situation.

The killing of the Justice League members should be heartbreaking for all fans of Batman, Superman and their allies, but that’s not the case. In order to be completely transparent, The Suicide Squad’s standoff against the Justice League only serves as an excuse to introduce the endgame Again and again he faces the forces of Brainiac and the conqueror himself. Without giving too much away, it’s good to know that your problems aren’t over yet. With DC, the multiverse is never far away.

Suicide Squad takes between 15 and 20 hours to complete, depending on the difficulty level you choose (of which there are 3) and your controller skills. But the adventure has just begun. The endgame is the real reason for this looter shooter, which follows the grand tenets of the masters of the genre. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League stands out for the scale of that famous endgame with his interdimensional incursions and his specific prey with increased power. Unsurprisingly, the final game suffers from the problems that arose during the main campaign against the Justice League.

Rocksteady Studios’ title is repetitive to the last degree and struggles to renew itself even after a few hours of play. Yes, the increasing power of your characters gives courage to the work and encourages players to do their best, but The feeling of doing the same thing over and over again remains. The missions and their objectives boil down to defend, escort, eliminate and survive… and that’s all. In order not to fall into “déjà vu” too quickly, there are a few variations, but it doesn’t go very far.

Suicide Squad is a cooperative game that was originally designed as such. And it’s true that the adventure is much more pleasant and refreshing when shared with three other misfortunes. The four-player multiplayer experience ramps up the hunt for members of the Justice League and then Brainiac without addressing all of the shortcomings mentioned above. Finally, the presence of an in-game shop might displease some players, but there’s nothing to be gained from it at the moment. She is content with selling new outfits for several dollars. We would have liked to unlock them differently, for example with the controller in hand.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is not the purge advertised. It’s an effective looter-shooter that relies on its vivid beauty, energetic gameplay and mastery of RPG mysteries to seduce. Unfortunately, too many negative points mar a carefully crafted adventure, starting with a pervasive repetition that ultimately kills the pure joy of shooting and looting. The Arkhamverse deserves better.
