Three months after its release, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is still in bad shape and has just set a record that is anything but encouraging for the future.
The aftermath of Batman Arkham is currently grim for Rocksteady Studios. Their service game Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League was in trouble upon its release and even before. The title’s multiplayer focus was never well received and opinions on the final version only confirmed doubts and fears. Warner Bros. Discovery reacted quickly and expressed its disappointment. The title did not apply to the group “Expectations met” and expected a “complicated year” for their gaming department. But the descent into hell unfortunately continues for Rocksteady.
Suicide Squad from Marvel’s Avengers
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is on PS5, Xbox Series since January 30, 2024. Despite Rocksteady Studios’ reputation and the aura surrounding DC characters, the game brought together half as many players at the same time as Marvel’s Avengers. A production that experienced more or less the same and was buried by its developers. The Crystal Dynamics title has indeed been met with heavy criticism, which has also resulted in disappointing sales for publisher Square Enix. But ultimately probably still much higher than Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.
Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League also continues to be successful in terms of player participation. At times there were only 118 players playing at the same time. That’s also less than Marvel’s Avengers. Of course it wasn’t Nirvana with 123 players, but Suicide Squad just came out. The title even dropped to 105 players on this day of April 26, 2024. Compared to the current 51,044 players of Helldivers 2, it hurts and is very problematic, especially for the future.
Why should Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery continue to invest time and resources if it still isn’t working? For now, teams are keeping their roadmap, but it might not last. Rumor has it that Suicide Squad could be canceled sooner than expected. A final season would be released in January 2025 and after that, curtain raiser! We definitely hope that Rocksteady gets back on its feet and the developers don’t have to face closure.
