Yesterday’s announcement of Super Mario Bros. Wonder caused quite a stir anyway, but Mario in elephant form has fans completely blown away.
It has been known for a long time that a new Mario game is in the works and after the announcement of Super Mario Bros. Wonder the cat is finally out of the bag. Or rather, the elephant is in a china shop. Or what ever. In any case, the game will be released on October 20th and Nintendo and Mario fans can rejoice.
Anyway, the 2D sidescroller has a really nice old school vibe as Mario and his crew hop through the levels and onto the Goombas. It comes with power-ups and one of them is taking the internet and social media by storm. Thanks to said power-up, Mario transforms into an elephant form and it just looks so great that it knocks your socks off.
Unsurprisingly, fans are going wild for this feature, showering the elephant shape with lots of love and some quirky memes. However, there is also a lot of speculation as to whether Daisy and Peach will also get an elephant shape and what that might look like. And the question of why Elephant Mario doesn’t have tusks is also buzzing through the room.
Whoever came up with the idea at least hit the mark – Super Mario Bros. Wonder will forever be associated with the trunked Mario.
With all the elephant hype, however, one shouldn’t forget that Nintendo had a few other arrows up its sleeve at yesterday’s Direct, such as a remake of the old SNES classic Super Mario RPG or a new Detective Pikachu. We have summarized the most important announcements for you.
