Does it still make sense to present Mario Party? After 17 episodes in which players competed in a thousand challenges, we can say that everything has already been said. In the main mode, Mario Party is an exciting goose game in which four players develop in different worlds by advancing from field to field according to the roll of the dice. The boxes are indeed important as they give either a bonus or a penalty and also decide what type of mini-game takes place at the end of the round with challenges in 1v3, 2v2 or free-for-all mode. Again, the goal is to collect more stars than your competitors, and as always, there are always plenty of items to buy/find.

The big new thing is obviously the “Jamboree Mate”. In Mario Party mode, a hero can land on a space at any time. Winning his favor brings significant benefits. For example, with this ally you can regain two stars instead of just one. These comrades are able to win twice as many bonuses, but also penalties, and can also be stolen by a competitor. Yes, it encourages some absolutely terrible low blows, but isn’t that what you want from a Mario party?

Talent finally rewarded?

Mario Party offers two modes that slightly modify the rules: Classic and Pro. The Pro difficulty level is intended for those who hate randomness and want their skills to be rewarded at a fair price. The “Classic” mode, on the other hand, offers an experience inspired by the old Mario Party with cheap star flights and lots of chance. This is a welcome option. Regardless of the mode chosen, everything is done to turn our friends gathered around the console into outlaw enemies. There are always items that can disrupt progress, such as the whistle, the golden whistle, traps or even the teleport cube, even if the prices have changed. Even though the options are numerous, we would have liked more choice when it came to customizing the playing field and especially its fields.

As for the sets, they try to please everyone by staying small enough and big enough to provide rhythm and strategy. If we appreciate Nintendo’s efforts, there are still situations where we go around in circles with bad luck and have no chance to move forward.. By multiplying the events to activate, the bonus dice, and the elevation changes, Super Mario Party Jamboree sometimes creates rounds that others find endless. Which is always a little frustrating.

With a lucky hand there is a lot to do

There are over 110 events in Super Mario Party Jamboree, making it the richest Mario Party in the history of the series. This is a mix of old mini-games and new experiences. The playlist has the right amount of action games, skill, rhythm, but also observation and memory to ensure lively games, locally and online. There are always some mini-games that are less fun than others, but overall the selection is as varied as it is entertaining. Note that unlike the episode released on the Nintendo hybrid in 2018, most of the mini-games do not take motion detection into account.

Motion gaming fans can find themselves at Rhythm Kitchen, Toad’s Factory and Aerial Adventures. As with Toad’s Room games in the past, these experiences are fun but serve as a bonus that can be played quickly and put aside quickly. Nintendo generously offers two more new modes, this time designed for online play, but also playable alone against the CPU. In the Anti-Bowser Brigade, up to 8 players must attempt to defeat Bowser by attacking cannons with bombs found in the arenas. The co-opathlon can be played online with up to 20 players; you have to collect as many coins as possible through special mini-games. At the end of each round, all participants find themselves in a test against Bowser, where the goal is simple: survive so as not to lose too many places. This final mode is quite fun and is Jamboree’s most interesting mode after Mario Party mode

With its 22 playable heroes and its countless game modes, including 100 percent solo play that offers the opportunity to revisit the game boards in search of missions to complete, Jamboree is chest-puffing. In keeping with the times, he is concentrating more than ever on the topic of online with many modes for online gaming.
