When one thinks of Super Mario it is almost inevitable to remember this character jumping around while advancing through worlds in two dimensions. This is the image that the collective imagination and Nintendo itself have been building over the 35 years of this icon of video games. However, Super Mario is much more than his remembered 2D adventures.
When the Italian plumber made the leap into three dimensions in 1996, the impact caused by seeing him move in all directions was such that it showed that a new era had begun for the interactive medium. That first three-dimensional foray, and two others that came years later, are the ones that can now be recovered in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a compilation available from today for Nintendo Switch.
