Players don’t really like it when their favorite titles are touched, especially when they are good and some of the content is cut off. However, SUPERHOT VR is one of them, and the community is trying to make their voice heard.
SUPERHOT VR is undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking virtual reality experiences. His basic concept was already very successful and the sensations are increased tenfold with a helmet put on the head and the adapted controllers, even annoying. It is precisely this solid immersion that led the developers to push out certain scenes of the adventure in which the player must … commit suicide.
In fact, at one point, SUPERHOT VR asks, point his lever towards his temple and pull the trigger; another passage also obliges the player jumping into space from the top of a gigantic building. If an update recently added the option to skip certain “annoying scenes”, the last update simply deleted the suicide scenes in question. The developers also shared a press release:
Given the tough times we live in, we can do better. They deserve better. All scenes related to self-harm are now completely removed from the game and no longer have a place in SUPERHOT VR. We regret it took so long.
This censorship did not upset the players, who rushed to conduct a gigantic “review bombing”.‘Practice which consists of not evaluating a work in bulk to express dissatisfaction. In this case it is the game sheet on Steam that was deliberate, with dozens of very negative reviews. Not sure if that’s enough to force the hand in the studio …
