Surprise, “Dead Island 2” quietly landed on Xbox Game Pass

Dead, game, Island, landed, Pass, quietly, surprise, Xbox

If you take a look, as of this writing, Dead Island 2 seems to have quietly made its way onto Xbox Game Pass, but no official announcement has been made yet.

To be fair, Microsoft had a lot on its plate yesterday, with four games it hinted at as part of its big multi-platform plans in a podcast last week all officially revealed in a few different ways. Pentiment and Grounded both appeared in a Nintendo Direct on February 21, with Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves appearing later, with a subsequent Xbox Wire post confirming the quartet. It’s no wonder Game Pass’s unexpected arrival seems to have gone unnoticed.

The game in question is Dead Island 2, which appears to be coming to console and cloud versions of Game Pass, but not yet to PC, as shown in the screenshot we grabbed below. It’s also listed as “Included with Game Pass” and can be purchased traditionally on the browser version of the Microsoft Store.

As of this writing, Xbox doesn’t appear to have officially announced via the Xbox Twitter account or Xbox Wire that the game will be coming to the service. Originally released in April 2023, this zombie action-horror film from Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios received very positive reviews from us, with the general conclusion being that it was “exactly the shocking blast it promised to be.”

It is not included in the latest list of games coming to Game Pass in late February and early March, which includes Bluey: The Videogame, Tales of Arise, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, which launched today, February 22. The title goes like this.

Another addition to this list is the return of Maneater on Game Pass, a game where you play as a shark that can absolutely take down swimmers, so there’s no shortage of fresh action on the service right now.

While you’re here, be sure to check out our coverage of all the other big announcements from yesterday’s livestream, including the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and the epic Mickey Mouse remake.
