The unique vampire survival game V Rising has only been in Early Access since yesterday evening and is already finding an exceptional number of fans. Shortly after the release, around 45,000 bloodsuckers found themselves on the servers to craft, build and go at each other’s throats. And today the game can be found among the Top sellers on Steam once again. But why is the game so popular? Hardly, because everyone has read our test:

Valheim with vampires?
What is V Rising anyway? In the survival game you wake up as a weakened vampire after many years of sleep and have to find your way in a harsh environment, defeat opponents and bosses, collect resources, craft equipment and finally even build your own castle. You can team up with other players or fight against them. A more detailed description of the game can be found here:

That’s behind V Rising – and that’s why it’s so exciting
What excites gamers about V Rising? The first 1,500 reviews on Steam are very positive: 84 percent satisfied vampires are currently roaming the V Rising servers. The game is often compared to survival hits Valheim and Rust. On the one hand, many like playing and building in co-op, but on the other hand, the PvP components, such as looting enemy fortresses, are also enthusiastic.
However, if you’d like to play V Rising alone, you’ll have to prepare for a challenge:

How good is vampire survival for solo players?
Many players also like the survival mechanics, coupled with the vampire setting, which is unusual for the genre. In the fights against bosses and other players, the comparison with the action RPG Diablo often falls.
What else has been criticized so far? Despite all the enthusiasm, some points of criticism are already emerging on Steam, which are apparently a thorn in the side of several players:
- Play requires internet connection: The description of the game on Steam states that it is possible to play offline. Apparently this function is not available at the moment. Some reviews are negative for this reason. However, the developers have already promised to provide this option in the next few days.
- Technical problems: Some players apparently also struggle with technical errors such as jerks, crashes or the like. Such problems are of course not uncommon in an Early Access game.
- No server change possible: Currently it is apparently not possible to transfer your progress to another server. Individual servers are also limited to 40 players. So if your intended co-op partner is playing on a different server, you’ll have to start over, willy-nilly.
- New beginnings often difficult: At the beginning of the game you are only protected from attacks by other players on the PvP servers for a short time. But that’s often only enough to scrape together the most basic equipment. Fighting against more experienced players will be difficult after that. New players are often robbed or killed, which can cause frustration. If such a prospect doesn’t stop you from trying out the game, then the best thing to do is to read our beginner’s guide:
