In 2017 Valnir Rok from the German developer studio Encurio appeared in Early Access on Steam. Since then, the game has not caused a stir and has been written off by most players. With a series of new updates, the developers now want to bring the game back on the map and promise: Valnir Rok is getting really dark.
"Great things are happening in Valnir Rok – in the coming months the game will experience a lot of changes, it will become darker and more brutal – it will not be a safe place to live. Can you prevent this apocalypse in the once peaceful country with its green pastures? ? "
The game wasn't exactly a guarantee for a family idyll in 2017, but Encurio apparently wants to take the whole thing to the extreme again. The first patch has already been released
The first patch is already out
A few days ago, a pretty big one appeared with update number 78 large package of improvements. For example, the developers took on the interface and redesigned the design of the life bar, and tips and information were also added to the loading screens, which had previously been sporadically decorated.
Color grading and lighting effects have also been improved and improved Valnir Rok prettier now. We still don't have a graphic bomb in front of us, but it is definitely better than in previous years.
The biggest changes were made to the gameplay: improvements in attack animation, speed and balance changes are just a few of the numerous updates. You can find a list of the patch notes on Steam.
What is Valnir Rok anyway?
Valnir Rok is an online survival role-playing game with a Viking setting. As strong northern people you have to go with other players through an open game world, which is inhabited by all sorts of bloodthirsty monsters and even gods from Nordic mythology.
The game didn't come off well with us: In the early access test for Valnir Rok, we criticized the not very pretty look, the wooden animations and the weak sound design. The high number of bugs also disturbed the gaming experience at Valnir Rok. However, we noted that these problems actually have a good framework that could be used to make something.
Developers have made improvements: The team has taken some of the criticisms to heart in recent years and taken care of improving the content in the game instead of really integrating a lot of new things.
Number of players – hardly available: The game had just under 600 players on its servers at the time of weddings, and that was a while ago. Valnir Rok has also been ported to the consoles, so you can also play on PS4 and Xbox One.
Developer doesn't give up: Of course, only the future can show whether the darker approach is the right one and whether the developers' ambitious ideas also work. However, the developers' efforts show that despite the low number of players in the single-digit range, they still trust their project to have.
Even if the chances are not very good here, comebacks can sometimes take place unexpectedly. After all, some time ago nobody would have thought that Fallout 76 could come back again. Why the game is now taking a big step in the right direction with the upcoming update, we explain in our plus conclusion on Wastelanders.
