Publisher Take-Two Interactive could continue to work on cost savings and may close the indie label Private Division.
Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of prominent game series such as Grand Theft Auto, is also apparently continuing to adapt to the changing circumstances in the gaming industry. According to a new report, the indie label Private Division could now fall victim to the efforts; this studio may be closed completely.
This was reported by Rebekah Valentine from the US colleagues at IGNAccording to this, Take-Two Interactive is trying to either sell the Private Division or, if necessary, simply close it down. The indie label would then be on the verge of collapse, which would also explain the canceled publishing deal with Bloober Team for the survival horror game Project C.
Take-Two had already taken steps to cut costs in the indie sector and closed Intercept Games, the developers of Kerbal Space Program, effective June 28. In the private division, large parts of the workforce were apparently laid off at the end of April; at the time it was said that the label would no longer have the support of Take-Two.
However, Valentine’s report at least raises hopes that Private Division could continue. According to the report, there is a potential partner who could buy the label. It is said to be a private equity firm.
The sources consulted for the report expressed their frustration with Take-Two and its management team, who had been characterized by poor management of the label.
