Weta Workshop and Private Division have a new game in the Lord of the Rings universe in the pipeline and a first trailer should be shown in a few days.
Tales from the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, a new game in the Tolkien universe, was announced in the fall and takes a slightly different approach than previous role-playing games and action adventures.
The title takes you to the Shire, the home of the hobbits, and is intended to capture its peaceful atmosphere. Concrete details have been scarce so far, but quite a few assume that a similar gameplay principle to Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing can be expected.
The developer is Weta Workshop, a studio of the same company that was heavily involved in the effects for the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson. Expertise in the Tolkien universe is therefore plentiful.
Weta Workshop and publisher Private Division had marked the launch of the game for this year and the time has apparently come soon, as the first trailer for the game was announced in a tweet on X/Twitter for April 22nd. So far there has only been a first teaser, which was not very informative (see below).
The trailer should hopefully provide more concrete information about what kind of game Tales from the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game really is. It’s about time, because according to them the game is still supposed to happen pretty empty official website will be released for PC and consoles this year, provided there are no changes to the plans. But maybe hard facts will come along with the trailer for the possible release.
