There was already a first teaser a few days ago, and now a new video game in Middle-earth has been officially announced: Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game. The focus is on life as a hobbit.
Take-Two Interactive’s Private Division publishing label and Weta Workshop, known for its involvement in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, have released a new Lord of the Rings game with Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game. Game officially announced. The title is scheduled to appear in the second half of 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam) and focuses on life as a hobbit in JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe.
Accordingly, in the new title you will find yourself in the inviting region of the Shire, where you live as a hobbit in the idyllic village of Wasserau. Here you can relax on the meadows, visit the other residents’ shops or enjoy the infamous second hobbit breakfast. As the game progresses, you have to help bring the community together and make Wasserau a constantly growing town by organizing the largest Wasserau village festival the Shire has ever seen.
You can create your own hobbit and customize it with a whole range of different options. You can then set up your own hobbit cave with various furniture and decorations. There are various activities such as cooking, fishing, collecting, gardening and more – you can then use caught fish or collected mushrooms to make pies for lunch.
Tales of the Shire is intended to be a rather warm and inviting Lord of the Rings game, in which there will be less mention of dark Mordor. Kelly Tyson, Head of Product at Weta Workshop, said of the title: “We’re excited to give players the opportunity to turn their fantasy into reality and live their own humble hobbit life in the Shire in Tales of the Shire Fans can experience Middle-earth in a completely new and comfortable way. The pleasant and happy gameplay revolves entirely around the hobbits in order to delight newcomers to the genre.”
