The last big update to Team Fortress 2 is almost four years ago and the last event took place in 2017 – half an eternity! Although the shooter is still very popular, the long absence of content has caused resentment in the community. Except for small item changes, there wasn’t much that was new.
So is Valve letting the game die? No! The developers are now reporting – as they say themselves, very old-fashioned via a blog post
If you want to get yourself in the TF2 mood for that, check out this amusing short film about Mercenary Park:

What can we expect in the update?
We don’t yet know what’s ultimately in the thick content update – just as little as the developers themselves. The new content is supposed to be together with the community via the Steam Workshop develop. Valve doesn’t seem to rule anything out: maps, items, effects and warpaint are given as examples. You have until May 1st, when the best content in the workshop will be picked out by the developers. When exactly the update will go live in the summer is not yet known.
So get to work! (Or back to work if you were already working and got distracted when the whole internet stumbled upon this development blog post simultaneously.) Make sure you get your submissions to the Steam Workshop by May 1st for them to be accepted for the so far unnamed, unthemed but still very exciting summer-situated (but not summer-themed) (unless you want to develop summer-themed stuff) update.
