Shield Surf returns in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but with Link’s new abilities, he’s an all-out skateboard boy.
There seems to be an infinite amount of activities to do in this updated version of Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule. Whether it’s making a bunch of wacky and wonderful pieces (and some pretty salacious ones), or just proving that there’s no “right” way to play. But what’s the hottest trend taking over Hyrule Hills? skateboarding. In the first game, you could do a cool flip that had Link stand on his shield and surf off a mountain, snow slope, or sand dune. But now, players are using Link’s Fuse ability to craft flat boards.
The thing about Tears of the Kingdom is that if an object can be interacted with through Link’s Ultrahand ability, you can also use any of his other abilities, including Fuse. So that means you can do things like glue a rock to the end of your sword, or shoot arrows with mushrooms on the tip. It also means that you can mount a minecart or a normal car on your shield, which players quickly find is the worst way to get around Hyrule.
As you can see in the 40 second video below, if you have a Zonai cart on you, attaching it to your shield turns it into a skateboard, making it work really well on flat terrain .
While it appears that the minecart mostly works the same way a shield would normally do, that hasn’t stopped players from using it as a skateboard, much like Jake Dekker, who used it to grind from island to island.

Then there are the baraturss on Reddit, who share their shieldboarding experience by pairing it with Bodyjar’s Not the Same (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skate fans stand up).

They weren’t the only ones with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater on their minds, as UnpropitiousPretext took their Zonai car shield and added some Superman from Goldfinger.

Of course, skateboarding isn’t the only way to get around Hyrule – there’s also the Wing device, but it’s a little trickier to operate, so we’ve got a guide that covers tricks and some of its uses.
