Ted Lasso’s AFC Richmond is fun enough in FIFA 23, but while the team prefers the show’s good vibe to skill, some of the game’s main characters’ stats have to be considered credible.
For the past few days, EA Sports has been releasing new ratings for the world’s top players. But now that the full game is only a week away, you can check out each player’s full stats database online.
Joining the Classic XI and MLS All-Star teams in other leagues around the world, AFC Richmond’s average aggregate rating of 78 places them in the middle of the Premier League between Wolves and Everton.
However, while a lot of the background characters aren’t great, some series regulars go straight to the best teams if they’re available on the open market.
First up is mercurial rising star Jamie Tate, a terrific Manchester City loanee on the show, whose stats look vastly overwhelmed given his 84 points.
4-star weak foot, 5-star technology, nearly 90 dribbles, is already an excellent ball carrier. With 85 speed, 86 shots and nearly 80 strength, he’s a very good all-rounder for this team. Just like on the show, he’s also a dead-ball specialist with nearly 90 free-kicks and penalties.
But he is not alone. As we all know, football is life, and his strike partner Danny Rojas is also very, very good. He has a deadly combination of 85 pace, dribbling and finishing.
Further down, Ted’s favorite winger, Sam, was also excellent. With 90 pace and 80 crosses, stamina and dribble, and solid stats elsewhere, he’s an absolute rock.
What surprised me the most, though, was Moe Bumbercatch’s central position in midfield. Despite his overall rating of 79, he’s a solid performer, with a 5-star weak foot, 80 stamina, and decent defense, making him reliable in every situation. That’s enough to make him stand out, but 90 speed, 80 dribble, and 85 short passing make him an Nkunku-style shuttler who can hang with the best of them.
Sadly, legend Roy Kent is a bit slow to have a real impact on the environment, but with 95 aggression (highest in the game), he should win every 50-50 and never get pushed away.
FIFA 23 is slated for a September 29 release, with a slew of changes to come before the series hangs up its boots next year and transitions to EA SPORTS FC.
