Gaming News Tekken 8 has a rating of 18/20, but community players may not like this addition at all!
Tekken 8 captured the hearts of Versus Fighting fans at the beginning of the year. But Bandai Namco’s new approach this time risks stoking player anger.
The scourge of gamers is coming to Tekken 8
Tekken 8 has been a sensation since its release on January 26th. With a score of 90 on Metacritic and more than two million copies sold in less than a month, the latest work in the famous Versus Fighting license is a real success for Bandai Namco. A game that is praised by players for the entire experience it offers, be it in terms of gameplay, graphics, roster, customization or even the different game modes. But Tekken 8 also stood out for a rare fact in the contemporary video game industry: the software does not contain microtransactions.
A real guarantee of quality for players, at least for a while. Because yes, Tekken 8 is getting an update soon that features a shop with several cosmetic items that can be unlocked with real money. A discreet announcement made earlier this week during a live event where the game’s roadmap and future updates were discussed. And for many players, this surprise announcement is disappointing and would be part of a real strategy on the part of the studio.
Voluntary silence or last minute idea?
The Tekken Shop should be available with an update soon, at the end of the month or during March. In this shop you can purchase various cosmetics such as iconic outfits from previous license installments. In most cases, these cosmetics should cost around 400 Tekken Coins – the game’s new in-game currency – which, according to producer Michael Murray, is about “US$3.99.” Michael Murray and his team were aware of players’ aversion to microtransactions and wanted to reassure them by explaining that this implementation was simply aimed at making Tekken 8 “a better game.”
We hear from some people who say they feel some kind of allergic reaction when they hear the word “Shop” etc., but the intention is more to update the game and keep it fresh with new cosmetics. We’re trying to improve the game and this is just one of the ways we want to do that.
However, fans don’t seem to be convinced by the producer’s statements. Until this week, Bandai Namco had never mentioned implementing microtransactions. A late and discreet announcement that for some people, would be released several weeks after the game’s release, as Bandai Namco wanted to avoid negative reviews at launch. Whether we agree with this point of view or not, we have to admit that microtransactions have never been well received by players.
