The game director of Tekken 8 is announced on twitter The upcoming Bandai Namco fighting game will feature cross-play, something he claims he’s wanted since its launch on PS4 and Xbox One.
According to Harada: “At that time, they [Sony and Microsoft] At odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issues), and repeated rejections. Today, though, with cross-play becoming more accepted across competing consoles, it seems like it’s finally going to happen.
Harada has a long history of engaging with the online Tekken community on Twitter, providing information to eager fans, retweeting fan art, and telling more obnoxious people not to ask him for help. They even made a shirt!
Obviously, crossplay applies to any multiplayer game. However, for a competitive game like Tekke, it’s great. Typically, the wider community of a game like Tekken, Street Fighter, etc. will identify the most popular platform and move there en masse. Without cross-play, this could isolate those players who only have one platform from the majority.
So, this is great news for Tekken fans. The entire genre has undergone a wave of technical improvements over the past few years, including crossplay and better netcode infrastructure. While some titles like The King of Fighters XV and Guilty Gear: Contest of Champions are still struggling with the online experience, we’re starting to see a slow but steady movement toward technically sound games for the genre.
Is there a game you wish you could add cross-play to? Are you hyping Tekken 8? let us know!
