Valves Index VR Kit has been incredibly popular for months. The reason is obvious: Half-Life: Alyx. The VR adventure continues the story of Alyx, Gordon Freeman and the G-Man after what seems like 100 years of waiting … Well: Since the virtual reality title is a prequel, it must be strictly speaking here talk about the prehistory.
The fact that Valve is getting involved in the Virtual Reality experiment is paying off. The world press is enthusiastic about the new half-life in its tests. And not only that. On Metacritic and Steam, user ratings go through the roof.
According to Metacritic, the average test score is a staggering 92 points. The user score comes up 8.7 out of 10. Fall on Steam 96 percent of over 4,000 player ratings. Pretty decent numbers!
Because we too are (almost) completely enthusiastic about Half-Life: Alyx, we wrote what is probably the most comprehensive VR test in GameStar history for our Plus readers:

Half-Life: Alyx in the test – the best VR shooter ever

The international ratings in comparison
You already notice: Half-Life: Alyx seems a pretty bad game. Joking aside – the press and the community largely agree on the strengths and weaknesses. The VR experience draws you into the half-life world as unique as never before – but also mechanically, the game deals extremely creatively with the VR environment. Alyx is much more than a first-person shooter. How User Mar writes on Steam:
"Wow. The level of detail of this game and the ability to interact with almost anything in the game environment make it definitely the best VR experience on the market for me. Incredible what Valve created with this title. Technically flawless. No stutters, high Frame rate, nothing to complain about. "
Or VoodooDE:
"There is not much to say, this is the best VR game ever released. It is a must-buy. Story, graphics, sound, controls, atmosphere are a MASTERPIECE !!"
Or protective conductor:
"I haven't played much VR lately. With Half Life: Alyx it was time again and after 2 hours of play I was really flashing. Everything feels so good, everything looks so nice, this attention to detail is unbelievable. That's exactly what I wanted in VR and VR needs exactly that. I'm definitely extremely looking forward to the next few hours! "
2020 seems to be a good year for Half-Life. In addition to Half-Life: Alyx, Black Mesa was also released at the beginning of the year. And after more than 15 years of development in the GameStar test, the remake pretty much knocks our socks off.
