If Diablo 4 is expected to be released in 2023, then the action role-playing game should take you to Sanctuary for many, many hours. Just how long will it take to at least see the end of the campaign?
There are now tangible statements from the developers about this. As part of the Xbox/Bethesda Showcase 2022, Blizzard’s Joe Shely and Rod Fergusson spoke with English-speaking colleagues from Gamespot about Diablo 4 and were elicited about how many hours the first run will take.
Incidentally, at the Xbox/Bethesda Showcase, Blizzard also announced the fifth class of Diablo 4 – the Necromancer. What distinguishes the individual classes from each other, we present to you in our big hub:
Diablo 4:
The 5 release classes and what they can do
The largest Diablo campaign to date
It may not come as a surprise to most players, but Diablo 4’s campaign will be the biggest in the franchise to date. According to Shely, you have to reckon with about 35 hours for one round. On the one hand, this is due to the open world of the action role-playing game, but also because there should be a lot to do:
You can travel wherever you want and decide for yourself what you want to do. For example, whether you follow the campaign, which will be an approximately 35-hour experience and is brimming with stories and characters that are truly human and with which you can feel an emotional connection.
Of course, this is only an estimated value from Shely and experience has shown that this only refers to the first run. With later characters, the playing time of the campaign should be a bit shorter.

Diablo 4 reveals five minutes of brand new gameplay and release timeline
Just for comparison: For Diablo 3 and its expansion, it takes about 20 to 25 hours to complete the story the first time. With 35 hours, Diablo 4 would be ten hours longer here.
The maximum level: 100 is your number
If you see the credits after the planned 35 hours, then you are far from finished with your character. According to Shely, you will then be about level 45 and you can move towards the endgame – and the maximum level is significantly higher. To be more precise, it only ends at level 100, as Fergusson and Shely mention in the interview.
For Diablo 4, Blizzard dares to make some big changes. In our analysis we summarize what these are and how the developers want to fulfill the wishes of the fans:
Diablo 4
More diverse, complex and a bit Path of Exile
However, the two did not reveal in the interview how long it will take to bring a character to the maximum level. However, you will probably need to invest quite a bit of additional game time in order to eventually max out a hero.
The various endgame content will be helpful here, including this Paragon-Systemthe Nightmare dungeons and a new bounty system called Tree of Whispers
. You can also adjust the difficulty again so that enemies are roughly at your strength level. However, the team will only reveal more details in the near future.
Over 30 hours for a Diablo campaign: is that to your liking or could it be shorter for you? Please let us know what you think in the comments!
