The best Game Pass games have already been covered
As Dusk Falls
Introduced for the first time at Xbox Games Showcase 2020, As Dusk Falls is a narrative experience that draws on various themes (family, forgiveness, loyalty) to tell a touching story. With an original artistic direction, with 2D characters integrated into 3D environments, it is recognizable at first glance. Its restrictive gameplay, which deprives the player of any direct control over the character, will not resonate with the genre for those allergic to interactive films, but allows the creation of INTERIOR/NIGHT to focus on the essentials. Thanks to its decisions, which very often lead to real consequences, As Dusk Falls scores better than many other titles in its category.
citizen sleeper
Widely ignored despite its great qualities, Citizen Sleeper is a narrative RPG set in a derelict space station. In the skin of onesleeper‘, a digitized human spirit in an avatar, you must flee from a corporation that wants to take you back. To do this, you must work on construction sites, serve in bars, or hunt in the markets in hopes of surviving until the next cycle. Inspired by paper RPGs, Citizen Sleeper gives pride of place to dice, dials, decisions and lengthy discussions with the protagonists present. Be careful though: the game, chatty, is entirely in English.
Gorogoa
Behind this strange title lies an original, poetic and well-constructed puzzle game. Gorogoa published by Annapurna Interactive actually offers an experience that surprises every moment. The principle is simple: the user has to explore pictures and solve different puzzles with different wheels. Conceived by Jason Roberts, the title plays with shapes, sections, planes and colors and nicely confuses our brain cells. In short, this great puzzle game definitely deserves that you devote a few hours of your life to it.
Nobody saves the world
DrinkBox Studios, known for producing the two installments of Guacamelee, is leaving Metroidvania to attempt the adventure of the rogue-lite action RPG/dungeon crawler. With Nobody Saves The World, the stated goal is to have a complex transformation system (eighteen forms in total) coexist with a huge open world. including various dungeons and characters. Each transformation has its strengths and weaknesses, as well as its own quests. From the rat to the turtle, to the bodybuilder, the player must tame a whole range of skills and adapt to the challenges that come their way. Playable in co-op, Nobody Saves The World is a title to check out.
Buses
Immediately after the announcement at Xbox Games Showcase 2022, Pentiment attracted a lot of interest. What could be more normal, the title was designed by Josh Sawyer, one of the fathers of Fallout New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. In the Benedictine abbey of Keirsau, Andreas Maler 1518 is an artist who sets out to complete his life’s work in the monastery’s scriptorium before embarking on an epic full of mysteries. In an attempt to solve a multi-year murder spree, the hero must solve puzzles, debate, and most importantly, make decisions that affect progress. Qualified as a historical RPG thanks to an impressive documentation of the time, Pentiment is an exciting title but talkative. It’s clearly not aimed at everyone, despite its tremendous qualities.
contempt
What could be better than a ladleful of cryptic horror to accompany this year-end turkey? Combining exploration and puzzle-solving with a dash of action, Scorn is a fairly contemplative first-person game, although what there is to see is off-putting. Lost in a hostile universe of unattractive structures, the player must solve various puzzles in a visual delirium reminiscent of the work of HR Giger. Flesh and metal serve as the basis for a narrative based solely on the environment. Immersive in its sound design and disturbing in more ways than one, Scorn has the luxury of being awesome. Ebb Software created a particularly impactful experience with an unhealthy atmosphere.
signaled
Attention, alarm! Developed by German studio Rose-Engine, Signalis is a survival horror for fans of the first Resident Evil. Set in a dystopian future, this old-school title challenges you to travel through haunted locations in the suit of Magpie, a replica technician. The heroine awakens from cryostasis on an icy planet. Signalis aims for old-fashioned sensibilities, which means that the player has to traverse structures with many rooms to visit, find keys to open doors, solve puzzles and, most importantly, because of the very limited inventory, do a lot of round tripping. Few ammunition and care sets force efficient resource management. An excellent surprise that deserves to be given a chance.
Somerville
Announced at Xbox Showcase 2021, Somerville had left its mark on the public thanks to careful artistic direction and a staging that seemed to be coveted. Invented by Dino Patti, one of Playdead’s former bosses (Limbo, Inside), Somerville is a narrative adventure set in the midst of an alien invasion. The player has to find his family members and find a way to survive this hell. Written and directed by Chris Olsen, the app blends adventure and mystery. Somerville has its flaws, such as B. tricky handling and simple puzzles, but the experience is still worth it if you like epics that border on reality.
The pedestrian
The Pedestrian was released in 2020 but entered the Game Pass library in 2022 and it doesn’t lack originality as we embody a small road sign character that moves from poster to poster. To advance you have to arrange the different panels, create the links and solve the puzzles. Accessible and awesome, The Pedestrian offers plenty of challenges to create knots in your brain. Thanks to its good graphics and its constantly renewed tables, The Pedestrian is a puzzle game peppered with devilishly successful platform games.
Vampire Survivor
At first glance, Vampire Survivors might seem like a bad joke. With its NES-worthy graphics and summarily animated 2D sprites, it’s not retinal flattering. But the interest of the title lies elsewhere. On the gameplay side, it’s hard to make it simpler: the player controls his protagonist using only the left stick, attacks are automatic. He must destroy enemies that give him experience points, XP that unlock new weapons or increase the power of acquired skills. This principle, both simple and addictive, is enough to keep you hooked for hours.. Thanks to the feeling of constant escalation, the title constantly attracts the player’s attention. Trying it means accepting it (at least for long minutes).
